Lesson Plan
Learning your ABC's as a kindergarten student is one of the most important aspects when thinking literacy. When keeping the theme of nutrition present, it's a fabulous way to also incorporate a way for students to think healthy, healthy, healthy! Once the students learn each letter, they can then take each letter and put words together that represent a healthy food. For example, "A is for Apple, B is for Banana," and so on.
Here's how you as a teacher accomplish this goal:
1. Begin this lesson by playing the song that corresponds with the letter you are teaching the student. Make sure the students are engaged in the video and paying attention. This is done so that the students are prepared for the second piece.

For each letter, you can watch the video.
2. Then, play it again, and allow the students to participate with the song. Have each student draw the letter in the air every time the song allows for this. By doing this, it allows for the students to become familiar with each letter on a different level before actually take the time to have the students practice the letter on paper or even on the white board.
3. After the students have drawn the letter in the air that corresponds with the song, pass out each student a whiteboard, marker, and eraser. Now you the teacher will pull up a word document on the projector or smart board that has the solid and checkered lines that allows for the students to visually see where the letters belong. You as the teacher will teach each student how to write each letter individually. When learning the alphabet it is important you do all capital letters separate from the lower case letters so that the students don't get confused. As well as take the time to spread out the letters throughout a good amount of time. By doing this, it will ensure that each student knows how to write their alphabet because this is the foundation to successfully writing and spelling.
4. Once this is completed as a whole group, you can hand each student a worksheet that will then practice this letter over and over again with a matching picture that starts with this letter. For example, A is for Apple. By seeing a picture that matches the letter it gives the students another opportunity to recognize the letter. Once the student is completed the worksheet, you can have them color the picture and allow for the rest of the class to finish their work.
5. You as the teacher can end the lesson, and send the student home with a new worksheet or online practice sight to really drill and practice this skill. The more work the students have with this lesson, the more proficient they will become with learning and writing the alphabet.

Games
Activities
Activity One:
You can use your technology in the classroom and have the students practice typing each letter on the keyboard. This free online website allows for the students to hear the sound, and then practice typing the letter as lower case or capitalized. This online game can be used as a study tool or another reference if a student is moving at a faster pace.

Activity Two:
The next activity that you can intergrate into your classroom, is bring in a piece of healthy food that begins with each letter from the alphabet. You as the teacher will then lay out each piece of food on the table, and the students will have to then match the flash card with the proper letter that matches the beginning letter with the piece of food.

Assessments
This worksheet above allows for the teacher to see if the students know the alphabet in the correct order. By having these apples blank, it will make the students think what comes next with helpful hints by some apples filled in. This sheet can be used to help students that are struggling and needs that extra push.
(Differentiated quiz, opposed to a completely blank apple worksheet)
